Gardens

Grace Church is surrounded by an acre of gardens. Here, congregants and visitors experience a sense of stepping into another world, a space not bound by busyness but rather, a place that offers tranquility and quiet.

The garden was planted using the “motel theory,” when one plant checks out another plant checks in. Every year there are blooms from Kiss-Me-at-the-Gate in winter, then early quince and on though the seasons.

The garden has areas for contemplation, and for celebration. The areas and “rooms” for contemplation are more private, the vistas enclosed and serene. Shaded areas are intimate and small benches provide a place to seek and encounter God in solitude or to share a quiet moment with a friend.

Celebration areas include those for casual meetings as well as organized events. An expansive front lawn adds visual dimension and provides parishioners and visitors a place and view for socializing. Wisteria vines entwine the sheltering arbor over the patio walkway between the Church and the Parish House bestowing a fresh canopy of purple blooms each spring.

Here couples exchange vows at sunset. The pools, fountains and family-sized tree house provide hours of delight and activity for children and their families. Easter Sunday, as families gather for worship, the gardens cradle brightly colored eggs for the children to find.

The Blessing of the Animals brings neighbors together with an eclectic mix of God’s creatures and the peaceful graveyard is a place of respite and remembrance.

"The gardens will draw you in. The people will make you want to stay"

Vivian and Jim Scott created the Gardens at Grace and for a number of years lovingly planted and tended these gardens. The joy that these gardens bring to the members of Grace Church, the neighboring community and visitors is truly a blessing from the Lord.

“A church garden should be a place where birth, childhood, courtship, marriage, spiritual maturity and death can all be intertwined, enhanced and perhaps better borne and understood.”

- Jim Scott

Learn More about our Gardens

We believe that children are an important part of our church family and they are fully welcomed to participate at all church events and activities. Intergenerational fellowship, formation and worship are one of the best parts of our life together. For children specifically, Sunday School (using the Godly Play model) is offered at 9:15.

Children (and grandchildren) are always welcomed to participate in church services, and there are small activity bags they may use for quiet activities.

A nursery for children 4 and under is available in the parish hall building from 9:00 until 12:00.

Baptism Godly Play Our Life Together

We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world. We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being; women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church. Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation. We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.

None must, some should, all may. While masks are no longer required at any of our events, they are currently suggested and those who would prefer to mask are welcomed. We know that many among us spend time with loved ones who are vulnerable (including very young children and elderly adults); please protect those closest to you and help us know how we can support you in that.
